Details:

• OpenAI image generator launched in late March, going viral for lifelike Ghibli-style photos and “AI action figures.” It drove millions of sign-ups, with 130M+ users generating over 700M images in the first week

• The API uses multimodal, “gpt-image-1,” to create images in various styles, follow custom prompts, render text, and apply world knowledge. Developers can generate multiple images at once with control over quality and speed

• Pricing is token-based: $5/million input tokens (text), $10/million (image input), and $40/million output tokens—about 2–19¢ per image. All images include C2PA metadata to mark them as AI-generated

Major companies like Adobe, Figma, Wix are already using gpt-image-1. The API includes ChatGPT’s safety filters, with adjustable moderation settings.

• Windsurf cut team pricing from $35 to $30/user, scrapped "flow action credits," and made enterprise plans cheaper; marketer Rob Hou called Cursor’s $20 plan confusing next to Windsurf’s $15 option
