OpenAI Labels DeepSeek State Controlled, Pushes for Chinese Model Bans
OpenAI has heightened tensions with Chinese AI developers by labeling DeepSeek as "state-controlled" and urging bans on "PRC-produced" AI models in a policy proposal for the Trump administration's "AI Action Plan."

OpenAI argues DeepSeek poses security risks due to Chinese laws requiring compliance with government data demands. They suggest banning these models in "Tier 1" countries to prevent privacy violations and IP theft
The proposal doesn't clarify whether concerns apply to DeepSeek's API services, open-source models, or both. This matters because open models hosted by companies like Microsoft and Amazon don't collect data
Although DeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng met with President Xi Jinping, there's no clear evidence of direct government control over the company, which spun off from the High-Flyer hedge fund
This marks an escalation from OpenAI's earlier claims that DeepSeek was violating its terms by "distilling" knowledge. By labeling DeepSeek as state-controlled, OpenAI seems to be using geopolitical tensions to impact AI competition.

Google has launched Gemini 2.0 Flash, an AI model that integrates image generation for fast, accurate creation, editing, and style transfers. Available through AI Studio and the Gemini API, it combines text and image capabilities in a single model.

Google's Gemini 2.0 Flash lets users generate and modify images through natural conversation, integrating text and image capabilities for more coherent visuals
It excels at conversational image editing, allowing users to refine images with multiple iterations through simple text prompts, even for uploaded images
The model enhances image quality with better text rendering, consistent characters, and accurate world knowledge, making it ideal for ads, social media, and illustrated stories

Visit AI Studio and sign in using your Google account
Once logged in, navigate to Create Prompt on the left
On the right, open the Model dropdown menu, scroll all the way down and select Gemini 2.0 Flash Experimental
Under the "Model" section, there is an "Output Format" box. Make sure you select ‘Images and Text’ here
At the bottom, upload your image and either ask the AI to edit it or request the AI to generate entirely new images
